Fort Payne’s Boom Days Heritage Celebration
Fort Payne’s Boom Days Heritage Celebration
By Mark Ethan Ford
Beginning late 1889, Fort Payne experienced a brief coal and iron industrial boom. The former “Sock Capital of the World” has a rich heritage in the manufacturing industry. As a tribute to this tradition, Boom Days Heritage Celebration is held annually in downtown Fort Payne. This festival features a children’s area, live music, art and crafts, and wine tastings.
The two-day event will kickoff on Friday, September 17. Main Street will be lined with antique cars, vendors, and food trucks as live music drifts through the air. City Park will be packed with arts and crafts, artisan demonstrations, and plenty of entertainment for the kids – animal rides, face painting, bouncy houses, and more!
Jam-packed with live entertainment, you’re sure to have a boot-stompin’ good time! The three stages will be loaded with a kicking music line up – the atmosphere will be unmatched as music echoes off the historic Main Street buildings. Acts including Still Kickin’, Aeromyth, Bellamy Brothers, and the Locals will grace the stage. Finally, Sawyer Brown will take the main stage Saturday, September 18.
Come and see what all the fuss is about! Join us in celebrating the “history, heritage, and happiness” of Fort Payne with a variety of events and exhibits tying the past to the present!
Also while here, be sure to stroll through Fort Payne’s historic Main Street and enjoy makers market, antique stores, quaint boutiques, local restaurants and so much more!
