As the days grow longer and the mountain air warms, towns across the region come alive with festivals, concerts, and lively outdoor gatherings. From toe-tapping bluegrass tunes echoing through the hills to family-friendly street festivals that light up small-town squares, there’s no shortage of ways to enjoy the sounds of summer. Here’s your guide to local concerts and the best spots to enjoy live entertainment this summer.

Geraldine Picnic in the Park – June 7

Held in the small town of Geraldine on Sand Mountain, Picnic in the Park is more than just a summer tradition—it’s a full day of family fun and hometown pride. Headlining the event is rock legend Damon Johnson, joined by Leah Seawright and the Average Joe Band, plus performances by many local artists. The evening also includes face painting, food trucks, craft vendors, pony rides, balloon art by Moons Balloons, inflatables, a kiddie train, and a car show from 4–6 p.m. Festivities officially begin at 5 p.m., and the night ends with a spectacular fireworks display. It’s a community celebration you won’t want to miss!

Events at the Pickin’ Post – June 7 & July 19

Start your summer with great music, classic cars, and good company at The Pickin’ Post’s outdoor summer kickoff event! The fun begins with a cruise-in at 4 p.m., followed by live music starting at 6 p.m. Artists include the Fortner Brothers, Marty DeRoche, Ken & Kim Stull, and Dawson Road. Bring your lawn chairs, friends, and family for an evening of entertainment in a laid-back, welcoming atmosphere. Everyone is invited to attend! 

Also, don’t miss The Malpass Brothers for one night only on Saturday, July 19th for a special event. The show begins at 7pm and tickets are $35 for general admission or $45 for the first three rows.

Freedom Fest

Bluegrass on the Rim – June 14

Get ready for toe-tappin’ rhythms and sweet harmonies at the 12th annual Bluegrass on the Rim concert at the Little River Canyon Center. Held outdoors under the stars, this event features acclaimed acts Kristy Cox & Grasstime and Foggy Hollow Review. Bring your lawn chairs or blankets and settle in for a night of soulful string music, with BBQ and other vendors on site. Coolers and leashed pets are welcome, making it the perfect laid-back summer evening. Tickets: $25 advance / $30 at the gate (students and kids receive discounted or free admission).

Teddy Gentry’s Singing with the Stars – June 26

Teddy Gentry’s Singing with the Stars is a beloved local event hosted by Teddy Gentry of the legendary band Alabama. This special night shines a spotlight on up-and-coming talent while supporting a meaningful cause. Tickets are just $15 in advance or $20 at the door, with all proceeds benefiting the Child Advocacy Center (CAC) of DeKalb County. It’s a night of music with heart—and a chance to make a difference in your own community.

The Alabama Band June Jam Songwriters Showcase – June 27 & 28

Experience the stories behind the songs at the June Jam Songwriters Showcase, hosted by The Alabama Band at the Fort Payne City Auditorium. This special acoustic event features some of country music’s most celebrated songwriters, performing their self-penned hits and sharing the inspiration behind them in an intimate setting. Each night offers a different lineup of performers, so you’ll get a unique experience whether you attend Friday, Saturday, or both!

Doors open at 6:00 p.m. and performances begin at 7:00 p.m. All proceeds benefit the ALABAMA Band June Jam Foundation. Tickets must be picked up at the ALABAMA Fan Club and Museum during the week of the event—no tickets will be mailed. Seating is reserved and limited, so early ticket purchase is encouraged. Rainsville Freedom Fest – June 28

Celebrate summer and freedom at Rainsville’s biggest party of the year! Freedom Fest includes a massive car show, a wide variety of food and craft vendors, inflatables for the kids, and a live performance by country music group Sawyer Brown. Held at the Field of Dreams, the evening ends with a breathtaking fireworks show at 9 p.m. Best of all? Admission is free.

Sand Mountain Potato Festival – July 4

For a charming slice of Americana, don’t miss the Sand Mountain Potato Festival in Henagar. The day kicks off with a patriotic parade and flag-raising ceremony, followed by a full day of festivities in Henagar City Park: a cornhole tournament, antique car and tractor shows, craft vendors, games for all ages. The music lineup includes Southern Gospel, Bluegrass, and modern favorites, making it a feel-good soundtrack for a small-town Fourth of July. Don’t forget to stick around for the fireworks at dark!

“ELVIS: In Person” starring Matt Stone – August 3

Get ready to experience the magic of Elvis like never before! Matt Stone & the TEC Band are bringing their electrifying tribute show, ELVIS: In Person, to the historic Fort Payne Opera House. Named one of the Top Elvis Tribute Artists by Elvis Presley Enterprises, Matt Stone channels the King in his prime—thin, energetic, and full of powerful vocals that will have you swaying in your seat. Third Saturday Sunset Cruise-In – Monthly

Fort Payne’s Main Street comes alive each third Saturday evening with the Third Saturday Sunset Cruise-In. This family-friendly event features live music, classic cars, motorcycles, food trucks, and a welcoming community vibe. It’s a great way to enjoy a small-town Saturday while listening to great tunes and admiring vintage rides as the sun sets over Lookout Mountain.

Mentone Summer Music Series – Various Dates

The Linger Longer Pavilion, tucked behind the historic Mentone Inn, is the perfect setting for a magical summer night. The 2025 Summer Music Series brings free live music on select Saturday evenings, complete with food for sale and a relaxed, bring-your-own-beverage policy. Music runs from 6:00–9:00 p.m. CST, and the lineup features local favorites like:
