Fall Festival Weekend a Perfect Time to Visit Mentone

The second annual Mentone Fall Festival promises a full slate of musical performances, artistic creations, crafts, and plenty of tempting food — all nestled on the Moon Lake Campus, site of Moon Lake Village and home to shops, studios, and businesses.

While you’re doing all your holiday shopping among the vendors, take in the sounds from the amphitheater stage, beginning with The Mentone Ukes, Lisa Crow, Still Kickin’, and wrapping up with The Vegetators. The kids will love all the fun activities, from face painting to tie-dying t-shirts. 

Area non-profit organizations will have tents set up, ready with information about the work they do for the community. With proceeds benefiting the historic school campus, the event draws vendors and festival goers not only from Northeast Alabama but also from other states.

Festival hours are 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., but visitors can make a weekend of it, with so many additional things to do in the area:

  • Bring a lawn chair and kick off the weekend with a free concert Friday, Oct. 18, at the Linger Longer Pavilion behind the Mentone Inn. Will Dooley & Company will play from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

  • Desoto State Park, popular for RV camping, lodging, and hiking, the park is a great place to be before and after the festival.

  • Spend some time at the Moon Lake Trading Co. Fall Fling, Oct. 19 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. inside and outside the store, with local vendors, Seabolt’s taco truck, and live music.

  • Stop by the Fontastic Foods truck, beside the Mentone Inn, for some of the best burgers (and other items) around.
