Trail Trekker Hike Series: DeSoto Scout Trail
Join DeSoto State Park Staff on a beautiful outdoor adventure hike on the Desoto Scout Trail (DST). This hike is a challenging, rocky & steep 3.5 mile hike. The trail follows the West Fork of Little River and traverses a varied terrain of ridges, valleys, fern glades, rock formations, waterfalls, beside deep pools, riffles, through rhododendron tunnels, creek crossings, swimming holes, and sandy stretches. Bring a hammock along to ‘hang out’ and cool down along the trail(we will have some to borrow) Approx. 3.5 miles round trip, moderate to strenuous along rocky mountainous terrain, with some uphills. We will meet & start at DeSoto State Park’s Lodge and hike downstream towards DST Exit 1, and back to Lodge via green trail. 9:00 am-2:00 pm (CST) Fee: Free & open to everyone, pre-registration appreciated. Weather-dependent, please call the Lodge at 256.845.5380 beforehand to check on status of hike. Bring plenty of water and/or sports drink, snacks/lunch, hiking poles/staff (optional), sturdy shoes (open toe shoes are not recommended)
