Plant Discovery Hike-Winter Foliage – Join DeSoto State Park Staff for a meandering journey within the forest, taking in every opportunity to learn more about the natural world. On this hike we will identify many native plants of the southern Appalachians and will be teaching you how to recognize the species found in the park. Scout out winter plants and wondrous rock formations among the natural clearings dotting Lookout Mountain’s porous cap. Bring a notebook/camera if you wish and discover what can be seen along the trails. About the hike: Approx. 1 1/2 miles round trip, utilizing green & yellow trails- moderate due to slightly rocky terrain. Meet at DeSoto’s Country Store on County Road 89; Free & open to everyone, no-preregistration required. Weather-dependent, please call the Lodge at 256.845.5380 beforehand to check on status of hike.
