Ribbon Cutting: The Fort Payne Heritage Tree

When the historic oak tree near Fort Payne City Hall was determined to be hollow and unsafe, the decision to remove it wasn’t an easy one. Rather than letting its story end there, the City chose to preserve its legacy in a remarkable new way.

Join us on Thursday, July 16, at 3:30 PM as we celebrate the official ribbon cutting of this breathtaking wood sculpture, masterfully carved from the original stump by Steve Baumgartner, Master Wood Sculptor of UP North. The sculpture beautifully weaves together elements of Alabama’s and DeKalb County’s rich history, creating a one-of-a-kind work of art that must be experienced in person to truly appreciate. Come celebrate this new landmark with us, meet the artist behind the incredible craftsmanship, and witness how a beloved piece of our community has been transformed into something that will continue telling our story for generations to come.
