Birding 101
Join the JSU Field School and the Little River National Preserve, for an exciting journey on Beaver Pond Trail, taking in every opportunity to learn more about the birds around. On this hike we will identify as many birds as possible of the southern Appalachians and we will be teaching you tips and tricks to successfully locate birds on a trail and recognize the species based on their call. All ages welcome. Join us after the hike for refreshments at the Little River Canyon Center. Plenty of water and/or sports drink, snacks, hiking poles/staff (optional), sturdy shoes (open toe shoes are not recommended). Please be sure to dress appropriately according to seasonal temperatures/weather. Download the Merlin app on your smart phone if you for some extra help identifying birds wherever you go. Meet at the trailhead for Beaver Pond Trail in the Little River National Preserve. Beaver Pond Trail is located just past Lynn Overlook on Highway 176.
Free and open to everyone! For details, contact the Little River Canyon Center at 256-845-3548.
