SUMMARY:Hank’s Last Ride: The Music of Hank Williams Sr
DESCRIPTION:Hank’s Last Ride: The Music of Hank Williams Sr. On December 30, despite being gravely ill, Hank Williams set out from his mother’s home in Montgomery for a New Year’s Day performance in Canton, OH. Legend holds that, after spending the night in a Birmingham hotel, Williams and his 17-year-old driver made a stop in Fort Payne for Hank to get a haircut and possibly the last bottles of alcohol he ever drank from a local bootlegger on Lookout Mountain. Snowy conditions in Tennessee and northward slowed their progress. Another hotel stay in Knoxville, and they were on the road again. But Hank would never make it to that show in Canton. Somewhere along the twisting highway through the dark forests of Appalachia, Hank Williams succumbed to his short, troubled lifestyle full of wild relationships, honky tonks, and alcohol & drug use. He was just 29 years old. Fort Payne Opera House is proud to bring you a live performance of Hank Williams’ music and other classic country hits featuring the star of RFD-TV’s Midwest Country, David Church! For about 20 years, David Church, along with his wife Teri Lisa, has developed an outstanding showcase celebrating such hits as “Jambalaya”, “Your Cheatin’ Heart”, “Lovesick Blues”, and more, making him the network’s most-requested performer! This special New Year’s Eve performance will be Church’s first since 2020, and honors the 70th Anniversary of Hank Williams’ passing in 1953.\nCome out early and kick off your 2023 festivities with plenty of time to ring in the New Year elsewhere later in the night! PLEASE NOTE: Balcony seating access is limited, and recommended for our most able-bodied patrons. If you have issues with steep stairs or other disabilities, we will have handicapped-accessible accommodation. Please call 256-845-6888 to place your ticket order. 6 pm to 9 pm\nTickets · $25 @ Eventbrite.com\n\n
